In the Spring of 2024, 27 Topeka Schools partnered with the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center to create nearly 7,000 square feet of Monarch Waystation plantings! In May of 2024, the Meadows' Monarch Waystation was created. Measuring over 400 square feet with plantings of milkweed and other native, nectar-producing flowering plants for spring, summer, and fall that attract Monarch Butterflies and other pollinators. Students, staff, and family members lovingly designed and cultivated our courtyard to make a home for this new feature. The Topeka Zoo's Horticulture Team provided all supplies including plants, mulch, and tending items. The Topeka Zoo's Compass Marketing Team and Advertising Partners designed and installed an educational graphic to mark the garden as a Monarch Waystation and encourage others to save Monarchs by planting waystations of their own. We are excited to house this Monarch Waystation and look forward to seeing the butterflies and pollinators visit in the coming years!
