Welcome to the Kansas Native American Affairs Office. The Native American Affairs Office was opened in the summer of 2011 with the primary purpose of serving as the Liaison for the Governor to ensure that Native American concerns and needs are addressed in state policy making decisions. This office coordinates intergovernmental communications between tribal governments the Governor's Office and other state agencies.
The Native American Affairs website provides information and resources about Kansas Tribes and contemporary Native American issues and concerns. Website links can be found under "Resources" regarding Native American media outlets that provide tribal perspectives on health issues, Native American Law, Education, Tourism, Gaming and Economic Development. While the Kansas Native American Affairs Office does not carry out genealogical research, a website link has been provided to the Bureau of Indian Affairs website for information about tracing American Indian/Alaska Native ancestry to a federally recognized tribe.
The Kansas Native American Affairs Office is located in the Landon State Office Building in Topeka, Kansas. Additional contact information and office hours are listed below. If you would like to visit with the Director, please call or email the office to schedule an appointment.
